Valentine's Day Books #2

The second of the Valentine’s Day books is one of my favorites. “The Pout-Pout Fish” by Deborah Diesen is about love and what love can do to your mood.

Why do I love this book so much? The rhythm of the book provides so much exposure to rhyme that even on the first read of the book children can determine the next work of a rhyming pattern. This leads to engagement in the book and it’s so “rhymey” that it almost sounds like a song which turns it in to a real big brain activity.

Pair that with the cute pictures, the unexpected ending and the novel vocabulary words to describe the Pout-Pout Fish’s sad ways makes it a really rich book for language.

This book is SO FUN!
