Valentine's Day Books #1

Today is the first of 3 Books focusing on Valentine’s Day books and the concepts they target. Today’s book is “Love From the Crayons” written by Drew Daywalt and illustrated by Oliver Jeffers.

This book is part of the Crayons series. I’m honestly not super familiar with the series but I stumbled upon this book and thought it was really fun and great for therapy. Each page features a different colored heart and a describing sentence. For example “<3 is blue because sometimes love is stormy”. The illustrations are reminiscent of a child’s drawing.

We will read through the book reinforcing the colors in the story and then spending time understanding each describing sentence and the feelings the illustrator and author are trying to elicit. I plan to make little blank books for my littles to develop and then take home after our session.

I’m excited to see how much language I can target with this simple little book. The colors, the illustrations, and the short descriptive sentences are exactly what I look for in books. I can’t wait to bring this one to my therapy table!
